A Guide To Sharing Your First Website and Gaining Followers

Once your website is in tip-top shape, you’ll be ready to share what you have to say with the world. A great way to get started with building an audience is starting out with your own friends and family. Sharing your website across social media is easy to do, especially since most of the platforms allow each user to list a website in their bio. Start with adding your URL to that portion of your profile. Sharing can be an intimidating thing, but as you’ll realize.. No matter what you say or do online, you will find that people have an opinion about it. Whether it is positive or negative typically comes with how controversial your post is to begin with. Here are some tips on maximizing your reach when sharing your website with others;

  • Add social sharing buttons to your website. There are many plugins out there that allow others to share what they read online. If they find something interesting, they might just click the share button on your website, which will then post their page of choice to their social media account. Plugins can be tricky, make sure to look for a reputable plug-in with many users, that is updated frequently. Facebook also offers their own standalone sharing buttons for users as well.
  • Have a call to action somewhere within your post. Some prefer to display the call of action at the top of the page, others have it at the bottom. Where you put this is totally up to you. Over time, you might find that one method works better than the other and so you might find yourself changing things up. Call to action examples include; “let me know what you think about ____ below” or ask a question to your readers pertaining to the topic, a lot of times, you will see more interaction when you ask a “this or that” format question.
  • Use a headline analyzer to create your headline, this will help you with different options that are available for your headline to grab the attention of your audience. This is your first impression every time, and so you will want to be sure that you get your reader’s attention right away. Some analyzers will even show you what the tone of your headline comes off as.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for shares, likes and comments, people love to answer questions about themselves and their life, so maybe ask them a question somewhere in the caption when sharing so that they feel the desire to interact with your post. I learned pretty quickly that people aren’t aware that they can share anything, sometimes my readers will ask for permission before sharing. To me, this is a given but for them, it isn’t always made apparent.
  • Include a photo that requires your reader to click on it. This is important because you want to also add visual value to your post. Introducing an article with an interesting or beautiful, well taken photo will help keep the reader’s attention or attract it to begin with.

As you can see, there are several things that need to be done before you share each post that you have written. These steps will help to spread the word about your post and allow others to come and visit your website. Comments are a website to website choice, some people prefer to have an open discussion going on at the bottom of their posts, while others prefer to keep the conversation limited to various social media platforms. Whichever you choose, is up to you!
